Different Drops w/Groups?
Hi all,
I haven't ever posted here, but I do have a question that has been bothering me and I was hoping someone could provide some insight. I have been playing GW with my BF consistently for a couple of years now. We always create characters together and do the same missions together. I've noticed that even though we start off at exactly the same level, he always tends to level up a little sooner than me. He typically will lead the party and start the fight first and I am right behind him. Has anyone else ever seen this? Am I doing something wrong? One other question.. I know that drops are random, but since we have played literally hundreds of hours together, I've noticed that he always gets more drops than I do. Yes I read the thread about how drops are random, but what about when there is more than one player? He is always the leader of the party and I always follow him. Thanks for your help. |

There is one possibility I can think of. Players must be within a certain radius of a foe that dies to gain exp and drops. If you are outside that range when something dies, you will get neither. I am uncertain what that range is; perhaps someone else can clarify. The number of drops should be random, but you will find plenty of anecdotal evidence claiming otherwise. I believe it's random.

Number of drops are random. Different professions get different amounts of exp for certain quests. You also have to be within certain distance of the enemy to gain exp.

Ok this is very interesting.. thank you. Maybe I need to change my strategy. I usually like to play my ele and stay as far away from the fight as possible. I attack from a distance while my BF is a warrior tank.
This could very well explain the issues we've been having with exp and drops.. although you would think that if I'm close enough to do damage then I should qualify for drops. I'll try to go closer and see what happens. Thanks |

If you are in spell range, then you should definitely be getting both, particularly if you are also casting. If you run too far out of agro range, you may not get xp rewards. I don't know the exact range for exp reward, but I am certain that it is within agro range. You probably don't want to be much closer than spell range as an ele, unless you need to drop a ward or somesuch.

I've found I get less drops as a mesmer or monk, and more as a nec, war and ele...not sure if that is really relevant, or true, it's just what I've found. Perhaps there is something to this observation...what class are you playing?

pamelf, the OP is an Ele.
And to the OP's question, I've also noticed this from time to time, but it doesn't keep on going for any more then a few hours o.o. Usually after that drops seem to return to normal. I'd say... it's purely bad luck. |

you need to within 60-90ft from dieing foe to gain experience.
equal drops for anyone in on the map circle. (ie) you can kill all a boses goons. then flag all hench/heros off the map. there names will dim grey when out of drop range. then switch to 55monk armor + spoil victory on boss. you'll get 100% drops so u can farm almost any green item u want. |
